Hi John,
As a PREEMPT_RT user I'm well aware that you have other priorities, though I'd like to tell you that the pull request to overcome the 8 GB limit [0] is actively used by my company and our customers and seems to work fine. Please consider reviewing and accepting the commit if you have some time.

I have not had time for this. It is not trivial. However, last month github user dharmendra-nutanix shared [0] that they are working on an implementation with pax. I expect that would also be acceptable, although I am not sure how widely available the necessary unpacking tools will be.
