Hi!
Linus asked recently whether the 'From:' mangling of remail is really
required to be as obscure as it is.
>From mangling is required due to re-encryption, but it's not required to be
as obscure as it is.
The following untested series tries to address this by:
1) Providing an option which preserves the real 'From:' in a custom
'X-' mail header
2) Providing an option to change the 'From:' mangling from todays default
'list-name for mailname_at_sender_domain' <list-name at list.domain>
to a more obvious
'Name via list-name' <list-name at list.domain>
with a fallback in case that Name is empty to:
'mailname_at_sender.domain via list-name' <list-name at list.domain>
As I'm not longer running an instance of remail, I unfortunately lost my
last test instance due to the lack of changes and the resulting lack of
attention to protest against the removal of my test instance. (I might have
even acked it due to me being a hopeless optimist who expected that we
don't need it anymore...).
Konstantin, may I ask you to give this a test ride on one of the instances
you are managing?
If you don't have capacity please let me know and I'm going to spin up a
new test instance here.
The pile is also available via git:
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tglx/remail.git testing
Thanks,
tglx
